An Invitation For Parents from The Head of Primary - Bangkok Prep

An Invitation from The Head of Primary – Friday 8 March 2019

An Invitation for Parents somewhere, in this text?

Dear All,

I hope this week’s Weekly Round Up finds everyone well and looking forward to Songkran. However, before we get that far, I would like to celebrate the achievements of everyone in this last week and highlight what exciting activities we have coming up next week.

Last Sunday, I was able to see our Primary and Secondary teams enter the prestigious Tournament of Minds (TOM) competition hosted at our Secondary Campus at T77 for the second year running. Apart from being an amazing campus, it was the perfect venue for this impressive tournament. Ensuring teams of students the opportunity to solve authentic, open-ended challenges that foster creative, divergent thinking whilst developing collaborative enterprise, excellence and teamwork; it also fosters the friendships that many experience, even among the teachers that support the children. All this is what we are proud to be associated with. Well done to, Ms Emma Gricmanis, Ms Jess Youton and Mr Christopher Duffin for giving up their time last Sunday for the second year running! Thank you!

Well done and welcome back Year 6 from their impressive, Kanchanaburi Residential. Thank you all who went with them to ensure we had a minimum staff attendance ensuring health and safety. Also, not only has Mr Simon Callow been organising Parent Maths workshop recently, he is also responsible for the fantastic World Maths Day held at our Primary Campus on Thursday. What an amazing final assembly Maths quiz at the end! Thank you!

Looking forward, a huge thanks to Ms Jess Youlton and Mrs Angela Hilderbrand for organising next week’s Book Week which will be held at both campuses, simultaneously. ‘Windows into Worlds’ is our theme this year. Look out for all the great activities planned such as our invitational ‘Book Author’ visit where on Monday and Tuesday we will be visited by the author Jonathan Camm. He will be delivering fun workshops with Years 1-6, sharing the journey of becoming a writer. Everyone has had the opportunity to pre order signed copies of Jonathan Camm’s books, he particularly enjoys writing within the mystery genre and has had much success with his latest series called ‘The Countdown Mysteries’.

In addition to this, on Wednesday, we have ‘Get lost in a book’ activities where each class will spend 1 lesson reading their favourite books and enjoying time to read them. For this, children are invited to bring in suitable pyjamas in a bag, to wear during this session. Please send your children to school in their normal uniform as usual. Then on Thursday we have the ‘Library Booklover’s Bash!’ From 2.30pm – 5.30pm (for Years 3-6). This is an invitation only event. These will be based on nominations made by teachers and classmates, for children who have shown a particular passion and enthusiasm for English. As usual, we will have book vendors selling their many books in the Undercroft throughout the week. Furthermore, we will have amazing Book Week quizzes; Book Week assemblies and not to mention, the Book Character dress up day on Friday. On Friday 15th March, everyone is encouraged to come dressed as their favourite book character (hopefully from the fantasy/adventure genre). I challenge all parents to join us for a Fancy Dress Parade, held in the Sports Hall from 8.00am. For this, the children (or parents and teachers, if they wish) can dress up as their favourite character from a book and parade around in their lovely costumes!

This promises to be another fantastic week at Bangkok Prep!

Finally, a quick reminder, my first Parent Forum this term is next week, with Nursery Parents on Tuesday 12 March at 8.00am followed by Reception Parents on Thursday 14 March also at 8.00am in room 215. Nursery and Reception parents have already received their formal invitation from Ms Seddon and Ms Pearmain and I hope to see you all there. Thank you to those parents who have contacted me already as they are unable to make it to their parent forum. Finally, please double check all the information about our Book Week beginning on Monday!

I hope everyone, has a wonderful weekend!

Best wishes

With a dedicated team of educators, Bangkok Prep sets high standards, encouraging students to dream big and work hard towards their goals.

Aligned with the National Curriculum of England and Wales, the school’s curriculum is adapted to reflect Thai culture and society. Teaching follows an innovative thematic approach, integrating real-life contexts with academic rigor to develop well-rounded individuals. Learning is personalized to cater to diverse abilities and talents, fostering mutual respect, trust, and inclusivity.

Bangkok Prep’s primary curriculum extends beyond statutory requirements, focusing on engaging cross-curricular themes to facilitate high-quality learning. Emphasizing active and interactive learning experiences, the curriculum encourages exploration, questioning, and collaboration. The school aims to nurture students’ curiosity, helping them discover lifelong passions and talents while preparing them for a fulfilling future.

Admissions Procedure

When choosing Bangkok Prep for your child, you’re welcomed into the school family, ensuring a warm and supportive environment. The admissions process begins with completing a brief enquiry form, followed by an invitation for an introductory visit and tour. Conveniently located on Sukhumvit 77, Bangkok Prep offers both Primary and Secondary campuses. Upon deciding on Bangkok Prep, applicants submit their application form and required documents. Assessment sessions are then scheduled based on the applicant’s year level, ranging from 30 minutes to 3 hours. The assessment includes various activities and tests tailored to different age groups. After assessment, the admissions team evaluates the application and notifies the family of the decision within 1-2 weeks. Successful applicants receive a formal offer letter and an invoice for initial fees, including placement, security, and registration fees, which must be paid within the specified timeframe to secure the child’s place.

Early Years

At Bangkok Prep, the Early Years curriculum follows the Early Years Foundation Stage framework of England, emphasizing thematic topics and child-led learning for a stimulating and enjoyable school experience. It nurtures learning through play and focuses on developing concepts, skills, and positive attitudes across various areas including personal, social, emotional, communication, language, physical, literacy, mathematics, understanding of the world, and expressive arts and design. The curriculum prioritizes individualized learning, ensuring continuous progress while maintaining confidence and a can-do attitude. Specialist sessions in Thai language and culture, music, library, physical education, and swimming further enhance learning opportunities. Supervised by native English teachers and Thai-speaking teaching assistants, children immerse in language acquisition through the immersion method, preparing them for the international community. The Early Years program prioritizes outdoor learning environments, valuing them as essential for children’s wellbeing and development. It serves as ideal preparation for the transition into primary school and provides resources for parents on the Foundation Years website.

Secondary School

Bangkok Prep prides itself on being a distinct international secondary school in Bangkok, prioritizing student needs and providing a stimulating learning environment. Central to this is the pastoral system, where each student is assigned to a tutor group led by a Form Tutor, ensuring personalized care and support. The curriculum evolves to meet students’ changing needs, offering a core curriculum supplemented by option subjects as students mature. Key Stage 3 (Years 7-9) focuses on a broad curriculum adapted from the English National Curriculum, fostering personal growth. In Key Stage 4 (Years 10-11), students choose option subjects alongside a core curriculum, culminating in IGCSE examinations. Key Stage 5 (Years 12-13) sees students specialize in Advanced Level courses while also engaging in a core curriculum and receiving support for university applications. Bangkok Prep fosters a warm, inclusive community and actively participates in regional competitions and events. The school encourages student involvement and leadership, ensuring a thriving learning environment. Contact information is provided for further inquiries.
