An Invitation from The Head of Primary – Friday 8 March 2019 BKK Prep, News, Primary March 8, 2019 An Invitation for Parents somewhere, in this text? Dear All, I hope this week’s Weekly Round Up finds everyone well and looking forward to Songkran. However, before we get that far, I would like to celebrate the achievements of everyone in this last week and highlight what exciting activities we have coming up next week. Last Sunday, I was able to see our Primary and Secondary teams enter the prestigious Tournament of Minds (TOM) competition hosted at our Secondary Campus at T77 for the second year running. Apart from being an amazing campus, it was the perfect venue for this impressive tournament. Ensuring teams of students the opportunity to solve authentic, open-ended challenges that foster creative, divergent thinking whilst developing collaborative enterprise, excellence and teamwork; it also fosters the friendships that many experience, even among the teachers that support the children. All this is what we are proud to be associated with. Well done to, Ms Emma Gricmanis, Ms Jess Youton and Mr Christopher Duffin for giving up their time last Sunday for the second year running! Thank you! Well done and welcome back Year 6 from their impressive, Kanchanaburi Residential. Thank you all who went with them to ensure we had a minimum staff attendance ensuring health and safety. Also, not only has Mr Simon Callow been organising Parent Maths workshop recently, he is also responsible for the fantastic World Maths Day held at our Primary Campus on Thursday. What an amazing final assembly Maths quiz at the end! Thank you! Looking forward, a huge thanks to Ms Jess Youlton and Mrs Angela Hilderbrand for organising next week’s Book Week which will be held at both campuses, simultaneously. ‘Windows into Worlds’ is our theme this year. Look out for all the great activities planned such as our invitational ‘Book Author’ visit where on Monday and Tuesday we will be visited by the author Jonathan Camm. He will be delivering fun workshops with Years 1-6, sharing the journey of becoming a writer. Everyone has had the opportunity to pre order signed copies of Jonathan Camm’s books, he particularly enjoys writing within the mystery genre and has had much success with his latest series called ‘The Countdown Mysteries’. In addition to this, on Wednesday, we have ‘Get lost in a book’ activities where each class will spend 1 lesson reading their favourite books and enjoying time to read them. For this, children are invited to bring in suitable pyjamas in a bag, to wear during this session. Please send your children to school in their normal uniform as usual. Then on Thursday we have the ‘Library Booklover’s Bash!’ From 2.30pm – 5.30pm (for Years 3-6). This is an invitation only event. These will be based on nominations made by teachers and classmates, for children who have shown a particular passion and enthusiasm for English. As usual, we will have book vendors selling their many books in the Undercroft throughout the week. Furthermore, we will have amazing Book Week quizzes; Book Week assemblies and not to mention, the Book Character dress up day on Friday. On Friday 15th March, everyone is encouraged to come dressed as their favourite book character (hopefully from the fantasy/adventure genre). I challenge all parents to join us for a Fancy Dress Parade, held in the Sports Hall from 8.00am. For this, the children (or parents and teachers, if they wish) can dress up as their favourite character from a book and parade around in their lovely costumes! This promises to be another fantastic week at Bangkok Prep! Finally, a quick reminder, my first Parent Forum this term is next week, with Nursery Parents on Tuesday 12 March at 8.00am followed by Reception Parents on Thursday 14 March also at 8.00am in room 215. Nursery and Reception parents have already received their formal invitation from Ms Seddon and Ms Pearmain and I hope to see you all there. Thank you to those parents who have contacted me already as they are unable to make it to their parent forum. Finally, please double check all the information about our Book Week beginning on Monday! I hope everyone, has a wonderful weekend!
