Biology Challenge Awards Academic, BKK Prep, COMPETITIONS & ACHIEVEMENTS, Event, News, Secondary June 17, 2022 This year’s Biology Challenge Competition for 13-15 year olds saw over 41,000 students from 550 schools worldwide take part. The Biology Challenge consisted of two, twenty-five-minute multiple choice papers that were taken online under staff supervised exam conditions. Questions were set on the school curriculum, but the competition also rewarded those students whose knowledge of the subject has been increased by reading books and magazines, watching natural history programmes, taking notice of the news media for items of biological interest, and are generally aware of natural flora and fauna. 51 students across Year 9 and 10 entered the Biology Challenge and we saw some amazing results, with 6 Gold Awards, 7 Silver Awards, 17 Bronze Awards, 9 Highly Commended, 6 Commended and 6 Participation awards. Bronze, Silver or Gold Awards were given to the top scoring 30% of students entered, Silver and Gold to the top scoring 15% and students awarded Gold had to achieve above 78.69% across both papers, with only 5% of participants in the Biology Challenge achieving this! All students who took part in this year’s Biology Challenge competition are also given a free year of BioNet membership, which provides them with electronic subscription to The Biologist magazine and e-newsletters featuring bioscience-related news and events. We are so proud of all of our students who entered and thoroughly enjoyed the ceremony where we could congratulate and celebrate their successes with them, with Ms Court-Smith presenting them with their individual awards. We now look forward to finding out the results of the Biology Intermediate Olympiad, which our Year 12 students undertook on the 14th June. We will share these with you soon, so watch this space!
