Biology Intermediate Olympiad 2023

This year saw an increase in the number of students taking part in the Biology Intermediate Olympiad worldwide, with over 14,000 students from more than 700 schools participating in the competition. This was reflected in our entrants at Bangkok Prep, with an impressive 22 of our Year 12 Biology students signing up to take part and, again, we were not disappointed. 

For the second year we saw some incredible results, including 1 Gold, 4 Silver, 5 Bronze and 3 highly commended awards. 

Open to students in their first year of  post-16 education, the competition consists of a one-hour multiple choice online paper. The questions cover topics from GCSE and early A-level, requiring students’ to use their biological intuition, logic, and creativity as well as problem-solving skills and core biological understanding. The competition really encourages students to study biology beyond the classroom in order to enhance their scientific understanding. 

Our students are always incredibly proud of participating in the competition and can use their achievement to enhance their application to University for Science-related degrees. 

On Friday 25th we had a small celebration of all of our students’ successes and presentation of the certificates, where Miss Court-Smith awarded all of the students with their medals. Please join us in congratulating our amazing Biologists for the second year running!

This is the last of our Biology Olympiad Competitions for the academic year 2022-2023 but we look forward to the 2023-2024 competitions. If you have a child in Years 9-13 and they are interested in competing this year, please ask them to come and see me.
