British Biology Olympiad - Bangkok Prep

British Biology Olympiad

This March, two of our Year 13 Biology students, Kirti and Yena, undertook the prestigious and very challenging British Biology Olympiad Competition.

We are proud to announce that they were both recognised for an award. Yena was commended and Kirti achieved a Bronze Award, meaning she was in the top 30% of students entered into the competition.

Ms Court-Smith presented them with their certificates on Monday morning. The Biology department and all of Bangkok Prep School wish to congratulate them and celebrate their successes.

The British Biology Olympiad (BBO) challenges and stimulates students with an interest in biology to expand and extend their talents. It enables students to demonstrate their talent and to be suitably rewarded with publicly recognised certificates.

It is not primarily a test of knowledge but rather the questions ask students to use their biological intuition, logic and imagination to answer questions. They are expected to apply basic principles which they are familiar with to new topics. The British Biology Olympiad is a challenging problem solving competition with questions that aim to teach students about cutting edge and topical biology.

It comprises two, forty-five-minute multiple-choice papers and certificates are awarded to students in the following categories: Gold, Silver, Bronze, Highly Commended, Commended, and Participation.

All participating students are also eligible to receive free Royal Society of Biology BioNet membership for one year.

We look forward to the next two Biology competitions this year; The Biology Challenge taking place between 2nd and 20th May for our Year 9 and 10 students and the Intermediate Biology Olympiad for our Year 12’s taking place between 8th and15th June.
