Daniel Chandler – Meet the Teacher BKK Prep, News, Primary October 7, 2020 Please can you summarise qualifications and work experience? BA (Hons) Psychology and Sociology (Sheffield Hallam University, UK) PGCE (Kingston University, UK) TESOL (Chichester College) My teaching career began over 9 years ago here in Bangkok as a Primary English Teacher. Having realised my passion, I then returned to England to fully qualify and work as a Key Stage 2 teacher in West London. Four years ago I returned to Bangkok where I worked at another school and helped them to achieve international accreditation as the Thematic Coordinator. What initially inspired you to become a teacher? My first role after graduating, as a Learning Disability Support Worker, helped me to realise how much I enjoy working with children. It also gave me a much deeper understanding of how to relate to and communicate with a wide range of children, particularly those with more complex needs. I then embarked on my first stint living abroad as an English Teacher which confirmed my desire to pursue a career in teaching. You are joining us as a Year 3 teacher this year – what do you hope to achieve with your class during this academic year? Ultimately, I want my students to look forward to coming to school where they feel happy, cared-for and valued. I hope to see them grow in confidence and forge new friendships which will last the rest of their school years and beyond. On a personal note, I am looking forward to working with a great team of dedicated and passionate teachers where I know I will continue to develop and improve my own practice. What do you love most about teaching? I love sparking children’s imagination and curiosity and teaching really allows me to express my creativity in lots of fun and enjoyable ways. I also really enjoy the unique relationships you build with each and every student in your class and watching them grow and develop as young people. Why did you choose to apply to work at Bangkok Prep? And having started work here, what do you love most about Bangkok Prep? Having lived in the city, I had heard many positive things about Bangkok Prep. Now I am working here, I can see for myself that the mix of passionate teachers, hard-working students and welcoming parents make this school a great community to be a part of. I look forward to continuing my own development as part of this community. PSHE Empathy Day Students in Years 7-9 had the opportunity to spend the day thinking about the importance of empathy: ...
