Focus on Science Faculty Developments - Bangkok Prep

Message from the Head of School: Focus on Science Faculty Developments

Dear Parents and Students,

I would like to announce some more exciting developments, which are planned within our Science Faculty. You are hopefully aware that in June 2019, the construction of the new academic Block D will commence on the T77 Secondary Campus. As a result of this development, the Science Faculty in Block C will double in size. There will be two floors completely dedicated to ‘state of the art’ Science Laboratories and academic Science classrooms. This facility will support the continuing the upward trend in IGCSE and A Level results.

Last week, I mentioned that the teacher recruitment for the next academic year (2019 – 2020) has been completed. I am delighted to announce that amongst the newly appointed staff are some key additions to the Science Faculty and they will assume their new role in August 2019. I have included some information and a short message from them below:

Hannah Caldwell – Faculty Leader of Science

PGCE Secondary Science – University of Bristol

BSc Biological Sciences (1st Class Hons) – University of Exeter

NPQML – Leeds Becket University

D of E Expedition Accredited Assessor (Bronze, Silver and Gold Award)

Hi, my name is Hannah Caldwell and I’m looking forward to being Head of Science from September. I studied Biology at Exeter University and taught at a grammar school near Leeds for four years before moving to an independent school in West London to lead the Biology department. As someone who really enjoys travelling I’m looking to living in a new country and can’t wait to see what Bangkok has to offer. I am looking forward to meeting all the staff and pupils at Bangkok Prep.

Elizabeth Richards-Gourves – Biology and Science Teacher

PGCE Secondary Science – Sheffield Hallum University

BSc Biology (Hons) – University College Chester

AQA Examiner for GCSE Biology Higher and Foundation Tier

Hi, my name is Liz Richards-Gourves. I have been a Science/Biology teacher for 15 years. Originally from Coventry, I completed my PGCE in Sheffield, UK. We are bringing our 3 children with us, who are all equally excited about joining Bangkok Prep and, of course, discovering Thailand. When I’m not preparing lessons or ferrying our children to their various sporting activities, I like to keep fit. I love my HIIT workouts and also enjoy relaxing with yoga. I’m looking forward to getting involved in the sporting events at Bangkok Prep and supporting our teams.

William Jones – Physics and Science Teacher

PGCE Physics and Maths – University of Manchester

MPhys – Master of Physics (1st Class Hons) – University of Manchester

OCR Assistant Examiner Marker – A Level physics scripts

Hi! I’m Will Jones and I am extremely excited to be joining Bangkok Prep as a Science Teacher in the next academic year, with physics as my speciality! I’m extremely passionate about teaching physics, showing how it is relevant to everyone’s lives and I look forward to working in the Bangkok Prep community! Outside the classroom, I am huge sports fan. I have been based in Manchester for the past eight years and will be sad to leave behind Manchester United. However, I am unbelievably excited to immerse myself in life in Thailand to learn more about the history, culture and food. I look forward to meeting you all!

Peter Green – Physics and Science Teacher

PGCE Physics and Outdoor Ed- University of Bristol

BSc Chemical Physics (Hons) – University of Kent

Wilderness Programme Director

My name is Peter Green and I am delighted to be joining Bangkok Prep as a Physics and Science teacher in August. I have played most team games and I like to surf, sail, mountain walk, ski, scuba dive or paddle whenever I am in an appropriate location. I am very happy to return to Thailand and to work at Bangkok Prep and I look forward to making a positive contribution at the school in the Science department and the wider community.

I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to some of the teachers that will be leaving the Science Faculty in June 2019. Mark Hunter has been an amazing Science Faculty Leader and will be returning to the UK with his family. Lisa Cook will be moving to another international school in Chonburi. Jan Kellner will be taking up another educational opportunity in Europe.  I am sure you will join with me in thanking them all for their hard work and dedication to their roles at our school.

During the next few weeks, I will continue to share the rest of the newly appointed teachers for 2019 – 2020 and the academic departments that they are assigned.

Have a wonderful weekend,
