Global Goals in Year 4 - Bangkok Prep

Global Goals in Year 4

The Global Goals are embedded across the curriculum in Year 4. Our last unit, ‘The Chocolate Factory’ focussed on sustainability and the Global Goals: No Poverty, Reduced Inequalities, Affordable and Clean Energy, Life on Land, Good Health and Well Being and Sustainable Cities and Communities. Alongside Roald Dahl’s Charlie Bucket, the children learned about how chocolate is produced, and the impact on the environment and cocoa farmers. We learned about Fair Trade and wrote a letter to persuade Mr Willy Wonka to make his factory more sustainable. We then made our own ‘Green Pledges’ for display, with promises of how we can all individually act to help the planet. In Genius Hour, the children designed and made sustainable chocolate factories from recycled materials.

Then came the exciting part! In groups, the children created their own chocolate bar brand, and designed, made and packaged their own chocolates! Not forgetting ‘Good Health and Well-being’, we also investigated the impact of sugar on our teeth, and how to keep our teeth healthy!

After half term, we will begin our ‘Water World’ unit, with its focus on Global Goal 14: Life Below Water. We will learn about the threats to our oceans and the marine ecosystem and hopefully add to the wonderful ocean display that we created last year from recycled plastic!
