Head of School Message: Introducing New Staff – Friday 23rd June 2023

Dear Parents and Students

We are in the final few days of this academic year and the end of yet another very successful year at Bangkok Prep. The future has much to offer us at Bangkok Prep. We will continue to focus on sustainability, wellbeing, global education and academic rigour.

Currently, international travel is relatively straightforward and during the summer holidays I expect many families will be travelling to exotic destinations. I hope that you are all able to spend quality time with your family and loved ones. Please also indulge yourselves and spend some time on your own wellbeing. We will be very busy during the holiday period preparing the campuses for the next academic year.

“Self-care is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation”

During the summer break, there will be many facility development projects which are planned to enhance the learning experiences at our school. Not to mention, the opening of the new Primary School facilities. We are all looking forward to the next very exciting new chapter for our school in August 2023.

I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank everybody in the Bangkok Prep Community for their unwavering support. I am so proud of the students and staff achievements this year and these accomplishments are the results of hard work. I would also like to acknowledge parents’ inextinguishable support for their children’s education and their commitment to our school ethos.

New Bangkok Prep teachers will be joining us at the beginning of August 2023. These high quality additions to our faculty will ensure that the students’ learning will be the very best it can be and our students flourish.

I am delighted to announce our new teachers for 2023 – 2024. I have included some information (in no particular order) and a short welcome message from them below:

My favourite subject to teach is English as I love becoming immersed in a story.

Outside of work, I like to spend time socialising with my friends and trying new restaurants and cuisines. I enjoy being active and going to the gym as well as playing netball. I have recently started to enjoy cycling and have been exploring new places in Shanghai this way.

I am extremely passionate about delivering and adapting a child-centred curriculum to suit not only the needs of learners but ensuring that all children are engaged and making progress, with an understanding that there is no limit to their learning. I am especially looking forward to joining our outstanding Nursery Team in our new campus and welcoming our youngest and newest students to the Bangkok Prep Family.

In my spare time I enjoy exploring hidden parts of Bangkok and Thailand with my family and friends. I am also a keen baker (including sampling the baked goods) and enjoy taking Molly to the parks of Bangkok! I am looking forward to continuing all of the above on my return!

Steve Rodgers – Secondary Teacher of Psychology

  • PGCE Secondary Science – Sheffield Hallam University
  • BSc Health Sciences Degree – Aberdeen University
  • BSc (Hons) Human Biology – King’s College London University

Hello everyone! My name is Steve, and I’m excited to introduce myself as the new Psychology Teacher joining Bangkok School. I’ve had the pleasure of calling Bangkok my home for the past seven years, and I couldn’t be happier with my decision to move here.

Before coming to Thailand, I taught in the north of England, gaining valuable experience in various subjects such as Science, Computer Science, and even Mathematics. However, my true passion lies in Psychology. Ever since falling in love with the subject during my university days, I’ve always dreamt of teaching Psychology, and in 2009, I finally got the opportunity to do so.

Beyond the classroom, I have a keen interest in sports. I’ve had the wonderful experience of coaching a female football team here in Bangkok, and whenever I can, I like to get out on the field myself for a game of football. It’s a great way to stay active and enjoy some friendly competition.

During the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic, I discovered a new hobby – cooking. I decided to take matters into my own hands and started preparing meals for myself. To my surprise, I found great joy in experimenting with recipes, and now I can proudly say that I make a mean marmite chicken.

I’m really looking forward to getting to know all of you and being a part of the Bangkok Prep School community. If you have any questions or just want to have a chat, feel free to reach out to me.

Tat Lay – Secondary Teacher of Computer Science

  • PGCE – Secondary Computer Science, University of the West of England
  • BSc (Hons) – Information Technology – University of the West of England
  • HND – Computing – University of Plymouth

It gives me great pleasure to join Bangkok Prep’s secondary campus as a Teacher of Computer Science and I am looking forward to giving back my industry and academic knowledge to the next generation.

After a successful career as a Full Stack Web Developer, I was awarded a scholarship by the British Computing Society (BCS) to teach secondary Computer Science. Marrying my love for technology and teaching, I am excited about preparing the next generation of students at Bangkok Prep. I believe teaching students how to problem solve is the key to a successful future and my motivation for becoming a teacher stems deep from the excellent and caring education I received from the British education system after my family fled the Vietnam war. I am very excited about working with the students and staff at Bangkok Prep.

In my spare time, I enjoy Muay Thai, table tennis, chess and experimenting with robotics.

The extra curricular clubs I enjoy hosting are Rubik’s cube mosaic projects, chess club, code club, table tennis, Muay Thai inspired fitness, board games and robotics.

We are delighted with the new additions to the Bangkok Prep teaching team and we can’t wait for them to meet the children in August.

Thank you

With mixed emotions, this is also the time of year where we need to say ‘Goodbye’ and ‘Thank you’ to some of our teachers that are moving onto the next exciting chapter in their professional careers. Without doubt, the school has grown in success and reputation during the years that these teachers have been at Bangkok Prep. Please find time to thank, in person, Alison Cantrill, Alzon Glyn Flores, Chris Hall, Daniel Hyman, David Dickson, Josh Signh, Juliet Perrin, Karen Raper, Maybee Ge, Melissa Stonehouse, Michaela Reid, Natasha Jones, Nikita Arora, Palna Davda, Patrick Kennedy, Philip Davis, Sophie Dand, Stephen Tarr, Victoria Pearmain.
