Health Day Sessions from the Student Leadership Team

On Monday 6th February our Student Leadership Team delivered seminar style sessions to our Key Stage 4 and 5 students on four different areas of health. The idea was sparked by our Head Girl, Frances B, before the Christmas break and our Student Service Team were then tasked with planning the sessions with help from the rest of the Student Leadership Team. With children’s mental health week this week, the initiative was perfectly timed to raise awareness and educate our students on key areas of health that are contextually relevant.

Students chose two 25 minute sessions to attend within the hour. There were over 400 students in 24 sessions and locations around school. Quite the logistical headache for our student leadership team to contend with and plan for. A special note should go to Krishna C, one of our Y13 Student Service Prefects, who took on a huge leadership role for this project and was able to successfully coordinate the leaders in planning, delivering and organising the sessions.

Below is a breakdown of the different sessions that were delivered by our student leadership team.

Substance Abuse

Substance abuse is the use of a drug in amounts or methods which are harmful to the individual. In this session, students learned about the different types of substance abuse, including prescription drug abuse, illegal drug abuse, alcohol abuse, and solvent abuse. Students also discussed the possible physical and behavioural signs one may show if they have a substance use disorder, dangers of substance abuse, and different recovery processes.

Anxiety and Depression

Anxiety and depression are psychological disorders that can result from a combination of biological and environmental factors, including lack of sleep, traumatic experiences, stress, and insomnia. During a recent session, students were educated about the effects of anxiety and how to seek help for recovery. They also learned about depression, including the various types and causes, and how to identify key symptoms to determine if they or someone they know may be suffering from it.

Stress

During the session, students learned valuable strategies for managing stress in both their academic and personal lives. Experienced student leaders shared insights based on research and their own experiences, covering topics such as coping with IGCSE and A-Level exam stress, and maintaining healthy personal relationships. The sessions were all interactive and engaging, incorporating discussions, charades, and quizzes to help the students understand the various topics presented.

Vaping and Smoking

Although illegal in Thailand since 2014, vaping has become a growing trend amongst teenagers. This session aimed to educate students about vapes and cigarettes and their negative side-effects. Students also learned about the differences between the two, possible reasons why one may decide to smoke, and the variety of tools available to help people eliminate their addiction and recover from withdrawal symptoms.

Primary School

Admissions Procedure

When choosing Bangkok Prep for your child, you’re welcomed into the school family, ensuring a warm and supportive environment. The admissions process begins with completing a brief enquiry form, followed by an invitation for an introductory visit and tour. Conveniently located on Sukhumvit 77, Bangkok Prep offers both Primary and Secondary campuses. Upon deciding on Bangkok Prep, applicants submit their application form and required documents. Assessment sessions are then scheduled based on the applicant’s year level, ranging from 30 minutes to 3 hours. The assessment includes various activities and tests tailored to different age groups. After assessment, the admissions team evaluates the application and notifies the family of the decision within 1-2 weeks. Successful applicants receive a formal offer letter and an invoice for initial fees, including placement, security, and registration fees, which must be paid within the specified timeframe to secure the child’s place.

Early Years

At Bangkok Prep, the Early Years curriculum follows the Early Years Foundation Stage framework of England, emphasizing thematic topics and child-led learning for a stimulating and enjoyable school experience. It nurtures learning through play and focuses on developing concepts, skills, and positive attitudes across various areas including personal, social, emotional, communication, language, physical, literacy, mathematics, understanding of the world, and expressive arts and design. The curriculum prioritizes individualized learning, ensuring continuous progress while maintaining confidence and a can-do attitude. Specialist sessions in Thai language and culture, music, library, physical education, and swimming further enhance learning opportunities. Supervised by native English teachers and Thai-speaking teaching assistants, children immerse in language acquisition through the immersion method, preparing them for the international community. The Early Years program prioritizes outdoor learning environments, valuing them as essential for children’s wellbeing and development. It serves as ideal preparation for the transition into primary school and provides resources for parents on the Foundation Years website.

Secondary School
