How the Arts and Creative Education Benefit Children in International Schools

International schools are renowned for providing some of the highest-quality educational settings that exist. The ethos of an international learning environment often revolves around diversity, global perspectives, cultural understanding and inclusivity. Additionally, many people associate international schools with academic excellence. Along with following some of the best curriculums in the world, there is something else that acts as a driving force for students to achieve their full potential: arts and creativity. Today, Bangkok Prep wants to discuss how these two things benefit children and enhance their academic and future success. Incorporating arts and creativity into an educational setting can help learners become well-rounded individuals and has numerous incredible benefits.

Promoting Cultural Understanding and Appreciation Through Creativity

Acting as a universal language, the arts are a fantastic way to expose learners to multiple forms, such as theatre, music, dance, and visual arts. This enables children to develop a deep appreciation and understanding of the world around them. Learners engaging with such diversity can express themselves while developing respect, empathy, and tolerance for others, heavily contributing to their global learning community.

Arts and Creativity Improves Problem-Solving Skills and Critical Thinking

A creative approach is fundamental in challenging and exploring our imagination. When learners engage in artistic projects, they develop skills in adapting to change and finding creative solutions to problems that might otherwise be complex. The more often creativity is melded with regular academics, the more a child develops and enhances these essential life skills.

Creativity Allows More Room for Self-Expression and Confidence

Providing a platform where children can confidently express themselves is vital to their social, emotional, and academic success. Creativity can boost a learner’s personal growth by allowing them to explore and understand their thoughts and feelings in a positive and supportive environment. Many creative forms can enhance confidence and foster self-expression, such as writing, singing, dancing, painting, and performing. Children in international schools are far more likely to successfully communicate their ideas and feelings with clarity and confidence. Giving them space to express themselves provides an immense sense of empowerment they will carry throughout their lives.

Creative Activities are brilliant for cultivating a collaborative environment.

When children participate in a creative educational setting, they are far more likely to be involved in activities requiring teamwork and collaborative efforts. Students will work together by rehearsing, performing, designing, and more. Additionally, creativity provides a space where they can discuss ideas with peers to enhance their own. When students have been educated in a creative environment, they are more likely to work well with others throughout the rest of their education, employment, and beyond.

Early Years

At Bangkok Prep, the Early Years curriculum follows the Early Years Foundation Stage framework of England, emphasizing thematic topics and child-led learning for a stimulating and enjoyable school experience. It nurtures learning through play and focuses on developing concepts, skills, and positive attitudes across various areas including personal, social, emotional, communication, language, physical, literacy, mathematics, understanding of the world, and expressive arts and design. The curriculum prioritizes individualized learning, ensuring continuous progress while maintaining confidence and a can-do attitude. Specialist sessions in Thai language and culture, music, library, physical education, and swimming further enhance learning opportunities. Supervised by native English teachers and Thai-speaking teaching assistants, children immerse in language acquisition through the immersion method, preparing them for the international community. The Early Years program prioritizes outdoor learning environments, valuing them as essential for children’s wellbeing and development. It serves as ideal preparation for the transition into primary school and provides resources for parents on the Foundation Years website.

Secondary School

Bangkok Prep prides itself on being a distinct international secondary school in Bangkok, prioritizing student needs and providing a stimulating learning environment.
