MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL: 14TH JUNE 2019 BKK Prep, Message from the Head of School, Primary, Whole School June 14, 2019 Focus on Primary Staff Dear Parents and Students, In August 2019, we will have a total of 115 expatriate teachers at our school. This is a clear signal of high quality education and they will have a direct and profound impact on our student’s learning. I would like to continue with my announcements about our new teachers for the next academic year. I am really excited to announce that amongst the newly appointed staff, are some key additions to the Primary teaching team and they will assume their new role in August 2019. I have included some information and a short message from them below: Alexa Morris – PE Teacher BA in Physical Education with QTS – University of Brighton International Award Teacher Qualified Pool Lifeguard Over the last 13 years, I have enjoyed teaching PE in some of the top performing schools around the world. I have worked in Royal Tunbridge Wells for 5 years, Aursha, Tanzania for 3 years where I was Head of PE, Bangkok for 4 years, and the UAE for 1 year as Head of Girls PE, now I am returning to Bangkok. I am very excited to be joining Bangkok Prep, one of the leading International Schools in Thailand. When I am not teaching I play netball and rugby, I have represented, Arusha, Bangkok, Al Ain, in local and international tournaments across different continents. I am also an avid horse rider and I enjoy playing tennis and swimming recreationally, I also enjoy reading, cooking and textiles. Traveling and exploring is a passion of mine, I love learning about other cultures and every facet of life. I am looking forward to being part of the Bangkok Prep community and meeting you all. Brona Soden – Key Stage 2 Teacher PGCE in Primary – University of Manchester Bachelor of Technology – University of Limerick Chairperson of the Thinking Drive Team Hello my name is Brona Soden and I am very excited to join the Bangkok Prep School community in the coming academic year. I started my teaching career as a TEFL teacher and from there studied for my PGCE in Manchester in the UK. Over the last thirteen years I have worked in KS2, KS1 and in the EYFS. I have worked in South Korea, Ireland and more recently Thailand. In my spare time I enjoy reading, the arts, history and music. I love to travel and experience different cultures and love to call Bangkok my home. David Dickson – Learning Support Teacher PGCert inclusive Education – University of the West of Scotland PGDE Primary Education – University of Strathclyde BA in Sports Studies – De Montfort University HND Sports Coaching with Development – Bell College of Technology, Hamilton My name is David Dickson and I will be joining the Primary team as a Learning Support teacher this coming academic year. I am originally from Scotland and I graduated from Strathclyde University in 2006. After several years teaching in my home country I moved to Malaysia in 2014, where I have spent the last few years teaching Learning Support at a leading International school in Kuala Lumpur. I love travelling around Asia and you will often find me on an aeroplane whenever the opportunity arises. It is fair to say that Thailand is one of my favourite places in the world and I am very much looking forward to working at Bangkok Prep. Harry Reid – Key Stage 1 Teacher PGCE – Reading University BSc Psychology with Sociology – Nottingham Trent University Hello, my name is Harry and I am very much looking forward to joining the Bangkok Prep School community as a Key Stage 1 teacher in the coming academic year. When I’m not teaching or preparing lessons, I enjoy playing Ultimate Frisbee with friends and rock climbing. As well as my sporting interests, I enjoy reading and trying new foods; cooking and eating. After completing my undergraduate in Psychology and Sociology at Nottingham Trent University, I trained as a teacher at Reading University’s Faculty of Education graduating three years ago. Following that, I returned to my own primary school, Caversham Park Primary School. There I taught for the last three years in Key Stage 1 before deciding to make the move to Thailand. I am looking forward to living in Thailand because of the history, food and culture of the country, and I feel very lucky to be so close to some of the world’s most beautiful locations, whilst doing a job I absolutely adore. Dr Jean-Marc Chiche – part time French Teacher Doctorate in Teaching of Languages and cultures (Hons) – Sorbonne Paris III University PG Research Degree in Teaching of Languages and Cultures – Sorbonne Paris III University MA – Teaching French as a Foreign Language – Sorbonne Paris III University Higher Diploma in Chinese – Institute of Oriental Languages and Civilisations I am very happy to join the Bangkok Prep International School Teacher Team as a French teacher. I taught French and Mandarin in Thailand in various famous international schools. I am a specialist in the teaching of foreign languages and cultures. Life in Thailand has many advantages: people are welcoming, the food is delicious, the country is beautiful and it is never cold. In addition, I love to do a lot of sports, especially swimming that I practice daily. I am also passionate about literature and philosophy. I often spend my holidays reading a considerable amount of books. I love novels of the nineteenth century and I also like to write, myself. I am the author of a novel and several poems. Keith Marsh – Key Stage 2 Teacher Bachelor of Education (Hons) – University of North London PGCE in Primary Mathematics Specialist Teaching – King’s College, London Hi my name’s Keith and I’m originally from Birkenhead, which is in the North West of England close to Liverpool. I qualified as a teacher in 2002 and since then I have taught in both the primary and secondary sectors, (although Primary is my preferred), in Liverpool, Manchester and London. I am currently 1 of 2 Deputy Head Teachers working in a primary school in West Hendon, North London where I started in 2006 as a supply teacher. I have a passion for teaching and am very excited to start a new role as an International teacher. I live in Camden, central London and am engaged in social and other leisure activities in my local area. I enjoy reading History and walking in the Chilterns, when time allows and generally just enjoy most things. I feel unbelievably privileged to be a part of the Bangkok Prep community and am itching just to get to Thailand. I look forward to meeting you all in August. During the next few weeks, I will continue to share the rest of the newly appointed teachers for 2019 – 2020.
