MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL – 22nd March 2019 Message from the Head of School March 22, 2019 Dear Parents and Students, During this academic year, we have had an overt focus on ‘Developing high quality relationships’. As part of this focus, the students in Primary and Secondary have actively taken part in a student voice survey. When students feel secure in their classroom and school, they are better able to engage in learning. Student perceptions of their classroom climate measure how safe, comfortable, and secure students feel, physically and emotionally. Our student responses will help us further develop the high quality relationships that exist between teachers and students. I am delighted to announce that the results of the survey were overwhelmingly positive and there was a very good response to the survey. I am sure that you will be interested to see some of the results below: The survey (combined Primary % and Secondary %) showed that : 96% of the students, either agree or strongly agree, that they enjoy learning at our school 94% of the students, either agree or strongly agree, that they feel safe at our school 91% of the students, either agree or strongly agree, that the behaviour at Bangkok Prep is good and it allows me to do my best learning 95% of the students, either agree or strongly agree, that they like their teachers at our school The survey also highlighted some of the student’s ideas and thoughts, which could help the school develop even further. These areas included the catering menu, school uniform and some aspects of curriculum design. More details of the results are currently being shared with students, parents and staff. There will be a parents survey conducted later in Term 2 and a staff survey will be conducted in Term 3. We will continue to use the ideas and perceptions of our students, parents and staff to guide the development of our school. Recruitment update The teacher recruitment for the next academic year (2019 – 2020) has been completed. I am delighted with the quality and calibre of our new appointments. The Academic Leadership Team are now turning their thoughts towards planning our orientation and induction events for the new staff who will be joining Bangkok Prep in August 2019. During the next few months, I will be letting you know about some of the appointments and developments in our staffing structure. During the next few weeks, I will also share brief ‘bios’ of the new teachers that we have appointed during our recruitment sessions in Bangkok and London. As both of our campuses are expanding, we have appointed an additional 15 members of staff to cater for this growth. These positions begin formally in August 2019. As part of our growth plans, I am also delighted to announce that Michael McFarlane has been appointed as Whole School Director of Sport. Michael has a vast amount of experience in high quality British international schools. Has been an integral member of the British School Al Khubairat, World Rugby programme and Abu Dhabi Harlequins. During the next few weeks, I will continue to share the rest of the newly appointed teachers for 2019 – 2020.
