Focus on Maths and English Faculty Developments - Bangkok Prep

MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL: Focus on Maths and English Faculty Developments

Dear Parents and Students,

I am sure that you are looking forward to the Songkran Holiday and I hope you find some time to rest and relax with your family.

I would like to continue with my announcements about our new staffing for the next academic year. As a result of the exciting Secondary Campus developments, the Maths and English Faculties will double in size. This investment in resources and facilities, will support the continuing the upward trend in IGCSE and A Level results.

Last week, I mentioned that the teacher recruitment for the next academic year (2019 – 2020) has been completed. I am delighted to announce that amongst the newly appointed staff, are some key additions to the Maths and English Faculties and they will assume their new role in August 2019. I have included some information and a short message from them below:

Dan O’Shea – English and Drama Teacher

I am really excited about moving to Bangkok and especially looking forward to teaching in the best school in the country! My hobbies are writing and playing musical instruments, singing, playing / watching all sports and dancing Salsa. I am looking forward to working with all of the students and building great relationships with everyone in this beautiful country.

Naomi Parker – English Teacher

BA (Hons) English Literature – Cardiff University

PGCE Secondary English – University of the West of England

Hello, my name is Naomi Parker and I will be joining the Secondary School as an English teacher. This will be my ninth year of teaching, having previously taught in the UK and the Philippines. I absolutely love to read and frequently have my nose buried in novels – I pretend that I do this as ‘research’ for my students, so please do legitimise this claim by asking me for book recommendations, and pass some on in return! I am very much looking forward to joining the Bangkok Prep community and embarking on a new adventure in Thailand.

Michael David Hurst – English Teacher

BA (Hons) Drama and English – University of East Anglia

QTS – North Manchester SCIIT

Legal Practice Course – Full time Certification awarded – The College of law for England and Wales.

PG Diploma in Legal Studies – Keele University

Hello, my name is David Hurst and I am very much looking forward to joining the Bangkok Prep School community in the coming academic year as a teacher of English. When I am not teaching or preparing lessons, I enjoy watching theatre and performing in my Local Amateur Dramatic groups. As well as my theatrical interests, I am keen swimmer and golfer; both of these hobbies are ones I enjoy immensely. My wife and I are very much looking forward to our time at Bangkok Prep and our new life in Thailand.

Duncan Reilly – Maths Teacher

MSc  Mathematical Biology – University of Bath

BSc (Hons) Mathematics (First Class) – University of Bath

PGCE Secondary Mathematics – University of Roehampton

My name is Duncan Reilly and I will be joining the Mathematics department at Bangkok Prep in the next academic year. I have been living and teaching in Bangkok for the past 3 years so this city feels like home. I love the food, the weather and the people here and my Thai is slowly improving! Before moving to Thailand I lived in London where I gained qualified teacher status and worked in an outstanding secondary school. When I am not teaching Mathematics I enjoy playing football, going to the gym, and travelling to beautiful locations around Thailand when I get the chance. I am very much looking forward to joining the community at Bangkok Prep and working at the fantastic new campus!

 Joseph Buck – Maths Teacher

BSc (Hons) Mathematics – University of Leeds

PGCE Secondary Mathematics – University of Exeter

A Level Further Maths teacher

Hello! I am extremely excited to be joining the Mathematics Department at Bangkok Prep this August. I started my teaching career at the world class Formula One Circuit, Silverstone, where I taught mathematics at a high performance engineering college. After celebrating my sister’s wedding in Thailand and experiencing the culture, the food and the friendly people, it has always been a dream of mine to work and live in this country that has so much to offer. Having spent the last four years thoroughly enjoying teaching and living in China, I am looking forward to working with the students at Bangkok Prep on their mathematical pursuits. I will be bringing my cat, Thor and my two main passions: mathematics and cycling. I hope to complete a ride from Bangkok to Ho Chi Minh City. I’m looking forward to meeting you all soon!

During Term 3, I will continue to share the rest of the newly appointed teachers for 2019 – 2020 and the academic departments that they are assigned.

Have a wonderful Songkran Holiday and I look forward to seeing you all back at school, safe and sound, on Monday 22nd April.
