MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD OF SECONDARY – 1st MARCH 2019 BKK Prep, News, Secondary March 1, 2019 Dear Students, Parents and Colleagues, We finished the week with a ‘mufti-day’ used by the Student Action Team to launch their new Equality Group whilst raising funds for the community service work our students undertake with Asylum Access. The Equality Group has come about through student voice and a desire to make the world more equal for all. This is especially important for us as an international school, since we have so many students and families with such a variety of differences, perceptions and cultures. I do not want to tempt fate but the air quality in Bangkok has improved recently, although we continue to have good air quality in our buildings due to our air purifiers. We now have to begin thinking more about the hot weather and its effects. We will be taking steps to ensure our students develop sensible behaviours as it gets hot, but would welcome your support in ensuring students come to school with water bottles to stay hydrated. We had an excellent turnout of almost 90% for our Y7 Student Led Conference this week and received very positive feedback for the online booking system. We will now be using it for the next SLC to make the evenings even more successful for students and parents alike. Finally, I hope you will join me in wishing our student participants at the Tournament of Minds competition the best of luck at T77 as we host the Bangkok event this Sunday. This is an increasingly international organisation (https://www.tom.edu.au/Map) originating in Australia just like Movember and Vegimite. The team building and problem-solving nature of the challenges are particularly rewarding for our students and nicely coincide with our March Life Value of ‘team workers’. Kind regards and enjoy your weekend. Nigel Wilsonlock Head of Secondary Thematic Magic Embracing the beauty of diversity in our Thematic class! From different countries, languages, and cultures, ...
