MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD OF SECONDARY –31ST MAY 2019 BKK Prep, News, Secondary May 31, 2019 Dear Students, Parents and Colleagues, We have had a particularly busy this week as we were able to see the full educational cycle of Secondary school in action. We have had the KS3 Assessments being undertaken all week whilst on Friday we closed with our Y13 Graduation Ceremony. For many of our Year 7 students this may have been their first experience of ‘formal assessments’ and their exposure to another aspect of learning; solving unseen problems through the use of learned knowledge and new subject skills. For us as teachers, the analysis and feedback of the over 2000 assessments generated across the Key Stage, gives us greater understanding into the needs of individual students and the effectiveness of our curriculum. It allows us the opportunity to keep improving. Our youngest students were taking exams as our Y13s had a break. Year 13 students and their parents were quite emotional celebrating graduation as it marks a tangible step between school and, for most of our students, leaving home and setting off into the world as adults. Preparing our students to graduate is far more than attaining academic grades. We have given them the survival skills and self-belief, to not only survive but thrive in their next ventures. We have now had 184 Graduates from our Sixth Form and are looking forward to developing them as alumni in the coming years. I cannot wait to see what they make of themselves! We have one more Parent Forum to host which will be for Sixth Form parents on Tuesday 4th June, please let Khun Mod know if you would like to come secondary.sec@bkkprep.ac.th. Following this will be a Parent Workshop given by our UGC, Ms Allen, on University pathways. The morning should be very informative and is a real ‘double bill’. Please remember that school will be closed on Monday due to the new public holiday, although we will be posting relevant work for students to complete via Firefly. Please see my letter sent out on Monday. Please note that we will still be open for those students taking the six external examinations; these will carry on as planned and the school will be staffed to ensure there is no disruption. Enjoy the long weekend.
