MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD OF SECONDARY –17TH MAY 2019

Dear Students, Parents and Colleagues,

We continue to be busy on the Secondary Campus as we finalise our year of learning and plan our many End of Year celebrations. Whilst Y11/12 and 13 continue their external examinations through to 25th June, our KS3 students are to shortly have their own ‘KS3 Assessment Week’. This should not be seen as a high stakes week of testing, but as part of the normal learning cycle to check on progress and allow for a review on personal learning. Some subjects will utilise the Exam Hall whilst others prefer a classroom-based approach. For our Y9 students, the use of the Exam Hall is also good preparation for formal examinations in the future, something our Y10 students have just undergone with their Y10 Mocks.

Our Parent Forums continue to be popular and I hope many of you will be able to attend the upcoming Y9 Forum on Tuesday, please let Khun Mod know if you would like to come secondary.sec@bkkprep.ac.th. We review developments, show future plans and gain feedback on four important questions we pose to attendees.

We were excited to receive notice of the extra public holiday on Monday 3rd June and will be closed for the day. The exception will be for those who have to attend the six external examinations taking place; these will carry on as planned and the school will be staffed to ensure there is no disruption. On Tuesday I will be sending out our plans to allow ‘virtual learning’ to continue, which will be similar to those back in January when we had to close due to the drop in air quality.

On Wednesday FoBP hosted their annual AGM and voted for the adoption of a constitution which was passed unanimously. I would like to thank the outgoing members of FoBP for their support of the school and the tireless work they have done behind the scenes. I have especially enjoyed working with Neetinder and Elena whilst being Head of Secondary and hope Ms Court-Smith will have similar support from the incoming representatives. FoBP has a very important role to play building relationships between home and school. As we approach 1200 students we have approximately twice that number of parents and clear communication across all channels remains vital if we are to achieve our shared vision of:

“To be an outstanding learning community that is internationally-minded, inspiring all members to achieve their potential.”

Please note that we will be closed on Monday due to the Visaka Bucha public holiday. Have a restful long weekend.

Kind regards

Nigel Wilsonlock
