Notes from Primary Music – 25.06.2021 BKK Prep, Event, News, Primary June 29, 2021 Notes from Primary Music Mita 5WF wins ‘Shining Star Prize’ At Bangkok Prep we have so many talented music students whose successes we celebrate both in and beyond the classroom. This week we congratulate singer Mita Phuengthongthai of 5WF for winning the ‘Shining Star Prize’ in the Sugree International Music Competition! The competition was online, so Mita meticulously prepared and performed the song Evil Like Me from the musical movie “Descendants”. She even choreographed her own movements, and coupled with her superb voice and dramatic costume her performance is captivating! Mita is not only a fantastic singer but also a gifted violinist and a member of both our Primary Orchestra and the Percussion Ensemble. Mita is also a wonderful ballet dancer and danced to Tchaikovsky at the Season of Smiles concert accompanied by the Thailand Youth Orchestra at the Thailand Cultural Centre last December. She works hard in all her musical endeavours, and has a big future in music and performance I am sure. Her mum Khun Pink – herself a ballet dancer – wrote to me and said “I would like to thank you for the motivation and inspirations in music for Mita”. I was delighted to receive such beautiful words, but it is students like Mita that should thank because they inspire me and touch all our lives. Mita, we are all so immensely proud of you – Keep reaching for the stars!! Dear Students and Parents, We have finally come to the end of what has surely been a remarkable year, one with many challenges as well as reflections and re-prioritising what is important to us. Leading our “little but loud” music department and teaching our wonderful students has been an incredible experience. Students, I have taught you all so proudly, witnessing your hard work and commitment to achieve so many personal goals in your Music classes and Music ECA’s. I have felt such energy and pride as we have all sang our hearts out in assemblies and whole school performances. I have witnessed your awe and wonder as you have enjoyed many inspirational performances by our visiting professional musicians such as the Sawasdee Woodwind Quintet, The Watkins Duo and Mr Jhonas Sibila – and I shared the joy you felt. For our soloists who have performed in our soloist rectals, assemblies and concerts, I have felt every bit of the butterflies you have felt as you bravely performed your finest, then felt my heart fit to burst when you took your bows. With my wonderful colleague Miss Frisbie, we really have all enjoyed such a great musical journey together these two years! One of the quotes that has always rung so true for me – so much so that I sign off all my emails with it – is the quote The fact that children can make beautiful music is less significant than the fact that music can make beautiful children. I can say without a doubt that I have never taught students as beautiful, capable and committed as you all here at Bangkok Prep. I have loved every minute of it. Keep singing, playing, creating, listening and reaching for the stars – your music talents definitely make our world an amazing place!
