Notes from the Primary Music Department 27.11.2020 BKK Prep, Event, News, Primary November 27, 2020 Sawasdee Woodwind Quintet to visit Bangkok Prep! On Friday 4th December all students in Years 1 – 6 will have the immense privilege of hearing live in a series of concert sessions a special performance by the finest woodwind ensemble in Thailand the Sawasdee Woodwind Quintet. Founded in 2008 Sawasdee has given performances throughout Thailand – from local community to the most prestigious venues. In 2014, Sawasdee made its international debut in Macau at the 15th Macau Band Fair and in Singapore where the ensemble was the finalist of Singapore Woodwind Festival Competition 2014. Sawasdee was invited to perform the Thailand premiere of Tania León’s De Memorias at Thailand International Composition Festival in 2015. Next week the students will hear the ensemble perform Prokofiev’s masterpiece Peter and the Wolf as well as a few other short pieces. I am thrilled to provide this opportunity for our students – the show will no doubt be fabulous! As mentioned last week, many new exciting paid Music ECA’s will be introduced at our school. If your child is interested please email lmorgan@bkkprep.ac.th and warisac@bkkprep.ac.th by next week latest to sign up, to avoid disappointment. Flute Ensemble Mondays 14:30-15:30 It will be run by our IVMP Flute tutor Mr Tony. The ensemble is open to all students who can play the flute and would like to learn how to perform music with a small ensemble. Each session Mr. Tony will teach participants about breath support, posture and fingering technique through a variety of flute ensemble pieces. Music Theory Class Mondays 14:30-15:30 It will be run by is a wonderful new ECA introduced Term 2 by our IVMP Clarinet tutor Miss Dao. The group class is open to students in Years 3-6 who are new to music writing and would like to learn how to read and write music. Students who do know how to read and write music that would like extra support may also join. There is also the option for students who would like to revise for the ABRSM or Trinity Music Theory Examination boards. Each class, Miss Dao will teach students about rhythm and note names and how to read and write on the treble and bass staves as well as other music reading fundamentals. Keyboard Workshop Wednesdays 14:30-15:30 It will be run by our fantastic IVMP Piano tutor Mr Jean Francois. The group class is open to students in Years 1 – 6 (no audition required) who either have some piano skills or are new to the instrument and would like to learn the piano/keyboard. Each session Mr Jean Francois will teach participants rhythm and notes, music reading fundamentals, techniques such as fingering and posture through music pieces in different music styles. Solo Singing Stars Workshop Wednesdays 14:30-15:30 It will be run by our IVMP Voice tutor Ms Kao. The workshops are open to all students in Years 3 – 6 who both are or would like to be more confident solo singers. Each session Ms Kao will teach participants healthy singing techniques such as breathing and placement, posture and stage presentation through songs in a wide range of styles from Pop and Rock to Musical Theatre tunes, Classical songs to Jazz. At each workshop students will then have opportunities to perform solo in front of each other and get individual help and advice. Term 1 Music ECA Drop in Sessions! A reminder that we will host our Term 1 Music ECA Drop In’s next week to give family members of the Music ECA’s the opportunity to hear what they have been working on. Students in ensembles will report directly to the auditorium after lessons at 14:15 to prepare. They will perform in their school uniform. Doors open for parents no earlier than 15:05 and parent sign-out will take place following the performance at 15:30. There are 2 seats per family leaving 1 or 2 seats between each family. Thank you.
