Primary Book Week 2019 BKK Prep, Event, News, Primary March 22, 2019 ‘Windows into Worlds’ This year the theme was ‘Windows into Worlds’, with an emphasis on exploring fantasy and adventure stories. This proved an important reminder of how truly powerful books can be. How they provide a delightful escape from our everyday lives. How they hold the power to transport us, at the flick of a page, to unknown realms where anything is possible. How they dare us to dream beyond the world in which we see. Author Visit This year, travelling author Jonathan Camm came to deliver some workshops with Years 1-6. He shared lots of tips for writing, especially how the story process develops from start to finish and the different things that inspire him. He also spent time in Nursery and Reception sharing his own picture book. The children were incredibly excited to meet the author himself, after buying signed copies of his books ‘The Countdown Mystery series’. ‘Get lost in a book’ session On Wednesday, each class had an opportunity to change into their pyjamas and enjoy reading for pleasure. It was lovely to see the children’s excitable interactions as they shared their favourite books with their parents and peers. Library Booklover’s Bash On Thursday, 32 students from Years 3-6, were invited to attend a special afternoon in the library, as a reward for the dedication and passion they display for English. It began with a carousel of activities led by Ms Pandora, Ms Webb, Ms Couper and Ms Youlton. These included a roaming book scavenger hunt, creating their own picture flipbooks, concocting their own BFG inspired drinks and a book themed game of Charades. The children then enjoyed some light snacks and ice cream sundaes, prepared by Ms Hilderbrand and Ms Peacock, and snuggled up to watch a movie. Fancy dress parade On Friday morning, our Head boy and girl led us in a final assembly to celebrate the fantastic learning that took place throughout Book Week. It wasn’t long before each year group were parading their lovely costumes around the Sports Hall, whilst Ms Trunchbull kept the rest of the school in line! I would personally like to thank Elliot and Lisa for leading so superbly, Ms Williams for her brilliant turn as Ms Trunchbull and to all staff and parents who showed their support by attending. Bookworm Quiz To conclude our week, each house competed head to head to be the bookworm champions! A select few had the honoured task of representing their house and were asked a whole host of questions relating to different book titles, authors, characters and more… Some of the staff even featured as part of the questions! Please join me in congratulating Tigers, who won for Years 1&2 and Lions, who won for Years 3&4 and 5&6. It was apparent from the noise level, that the children thoroughly enjoyed themselves. All in all, it has been a busy but exciting week, and I would like to thank all staff and parents for dedicating their time and support to ensure that the week was enjoyed by all.
