Primary KS2 ECO ECA Trip to the Forest Campus - Bangkok Prep

Primary KS2 ECO ECA Trip to the Forest Campus

On Thursday 5th October 2023, the Primary Eco Team went on an adventure to the Bangkok Prep Forest Campus with the mission of:

  1. Completing the Eco-School Environmental Review of the Forest Campus (they have previously completed this for the Primary Campus)
  2. To make sustainably made bird feeders to help encourage wildlife to visit the Forest Campus

All of the children were filled with excitement and anticipation as they all waited outside of the Cafeteria for everyone to arrive and for each child to put on their life jackets and to test to ensure it was fitted accurately. Once a final head count was made and all children were accounted for Mr Wooldridge, Ms Hilne and Ms Lenny led the children onto the minivans.

This was the first time Primary had visited the Forest Campus from our new location of the new P77 campus. The journey was short with little traffic to get in the way. Once everyone arrived at Wok Nok Pier, all children were accounted for and everyone set off in single file towards the Pier to get onto the boat to cross the Chao Phraya river. The journey lasted less than 2 minutes and once all children and staff got safely off of the boat, everybody headed down the road on foot to the Forest Campus.

After around 5 minutes of walking everyone finally reached the Forest Campus, all children put down their bags and they had 10 minutes to walk around and explore the campus. Once the time was up, children were then reminded of the child-led activities which they set out to complete. First, children had 20 minutes to walk around the Forest Campus in teams of 3 to complete the Eco-Schools Environmental Review. This is a key starting point in the process of renewing the Green Flag Award.

All of the activities linked to our 3 main Eco-Schools topic areas for this year:

  • Global Citizenship
  • Healthy Eating
  • Reduce Waste

Once the task was completed, it was time to get a little messy! Children worked in pairs and used a soy based paste alongside organic bird seed to create natural and sustainable bird feeders. Once the moans and groans subsided, all of the children really enjoyed getting their hands dirty and sticky – it was all for a good cause afterall! Finally, each time had to tie a string to their bird feeder and then find an appropriate location to hand it. A job, thoroughly well-done!

The Forest Campus was then tidied up, children ensured they had all of their belongings and we took the journey back to P77. Luckily, the rain held off and the traffic was kind! A great time had by all, making a positive difference to our Bangkok Prep Forest Campus and Primary Campus community.

A special mention and ‘thank you’ to Ms Hilne and Ms Lenny for accompanying the Primary Eco ECA Team on our adventure! We couldn’t have done it without you!

Early Years

At Bangkok Prep, the Early Years curriculum follows the Early Years Foundation Stage framework of England, emphasizing thematic topics and child-led learning for a stimulating and enjoyable school experience. It nurtures learning through play and focuses on developing concepts, skills, and positive attitudes across various areas including personal, social, emotional, communication, language, physical, literacy, mathematics, understanding of the world, and expressive arts and design. The curriculum prioritizes individualized learning, ensuring continuous progress while maintaining confidence and a can-do attitude. Specialist sessions in Thai language and culture, music, library, physical education, and swimming further enhance learning opportunities. Supervised by native English teachers and Thai-speaking teaching assistants, children immerse in language acquisition through the immersion method, preparing them for the international community. The Early Years program prioritizes outdoor learning environments, valuing them as essential for children’s wellbeing and development. It serves as ideal preparation for the transition into primary school and provides resources for parents on the Foundation Years website.

Secondary School

Bangkok Prep prides itself on being a distinct international secondary school in Bangkok, prioritizing student needs and providing a stimulating learning environment. Central to this is the pastoral system, where each student is assigned to a tutor group led by a Form Tutor, ensuring personalized care and support. Key Stage 3 (Years 7-9) focuses on a broad curriculum adapted from the English National Curriculum, fostering personal growth. In Key Stage 4 (Years 10-11), students choose option subjects alongside a core curriculum, culminating in IGCSE examinations. Key Stage 5 (Years 12-13) sees students specialize in Advanced Level courses while also engaging in a core curriculum and receiving support for university applications. Bangkok Prep fosters a warm, inclusive community and actively participates in regional competitions and events.
