Seasonal Celebration – Ending the Term on a High Note! BKK Prep, Event, News, Secondary December 11, 2020 On Thursday 10th December at 2pm, Secondary musicians created resounding and joyous reverberations on the field of the Sukhumvit 77 campus as they staged the 2020 Seasonal Celebrations. Whilst the sun presented us with unexpected hot conditions for this time of year, nothing was ‘hotter’ – in fact, sizzling hot – than the KS3 musical presentations! The musical celebration opened on a soaring sky-high note with our visiting Music specialist teachers playing ‘Sleigh Ride’ as a mixed wind quartet, overlooking the field from the C Block balcony! Following this outstanding opening, the festive music kept rolling out with a range of Christmas favourites delivered enthusiastically by each KS3 year level. These pieces included ‘God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen’ (all Year 7 students), ‘Amavolovolo’ (all Year 8 students), ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas’, and, ‘Happy Xmas: War is Over’ (Year 9 students). ‘Feliz Navidad’ added a special touch, presented as a percussion ensemble by a small group of Year 8 performers. The Year 9 Thai students performed a sweet and gentle arrangement of ‘Silent Night’ on thai instruments. The choir and orchestra joined forces to present a hauntingly beautiful version of ‘Walking in the Air’ enhanced by choreography and white balloons for the singers – thank you Sara Tagai (Year 9) for the choreography work! Smaller group items featured the Year 7 Rock Band rocking out ‘Run Run Rudolph’, a beautiful vocal solo ‘Grown Up Christmas List’ from Frances Burnett (Year 11), a Year 11 trio ‘Last Christmas’, a brass quartet ‘Joy to the World’ featuring Elliot and Alex (Year 8), and ‘We Wish You a Merry Christmas’ (orchestra). The musical celebration ended with a rousing, energetic band piece called ‘Christmas Mashup’, which featured the 100+ KS3 Instrumental Studies students. Fantastic effort from all of the KS3 Secondary School performers and of course a big shout out to the supporting staff: Kru Khing (Thai instruments); Mr Zam and Mr M (Brass teachers) Ms Gwang (Flute teacher) Ms Bow (Clarinet and Sax teacher); Mr Watters (Music) Ms Pow (Music) Ms Hardwick (Music); Mr Morton (compere); plus the Stage, Sound and Lighting team of Khun Bank, Khun Eddy, Khun Wit; and the Events team of Mrs Ahl and Khun Pilsay. The Seasonal Celebration is certainly a delightful way to end the term. Well done everyone and Merry Christmas to all!
