Songkran Festival BKK Prep, Event, News, Whole School March 15, 2019 “Sawadee Pee Mai Thai” This is a Thai language phrase you will hear when the Songkran festival is celebrated. As you may know, Songkran is Thailand’s most famous festival and an important event on the Buddhist calendar. This year in Thailand Songkran starts on Saturday April 13th and the festival continues for several days. This water festival marks the beginning of the traditional Thai New Year. At Bangkok Prep we recognise the importance and value of this Thai tradition and have been celebrating in school every year. This year’s celebrations will take place on the last day of Term 2, Friday 5th April. We would like to encourage all members of Bangkok Prep to celebrate our Songkran festival by wearing a “floral colourful shirt” also sometimes called the “Songkran shirt”. Please see if you can help to ‘paint our school’ with colour by joining the community in wearing your “Songkran shirt”. Songkran is a fulfilling, fascinating and joyful tradition at Bangkok Prep and we hope you are looking forward to it again. If this is your first year in Thailand then you can find out more about Songkran here.
