Swiss Education Group University Visit

On 16 November 2022, I had the opportunity to join a group of international career and university counsellors on a tour in Montreux, Switzerland organised by the Swiss Education Group. This group comprises four top hospitality schools and has more than 6,000 students enrolled. With nearly 40 years of experience in hospitality, business, and culinary arts education. The four schools are Culinary Arts Academy Switzerland, Hotel Institute Montreux, Swiss Hotel Management School, and César Ritz Colleges Switzerland. These universities are located in or near Montreux, a town on the shoreline of Lake Geneva at the foot of the Alps. With a population of roughly 26,000 people, Montreux has always been an important tourist destination due to its mild climate and historical attractions.

Hotel Institute Montreux (HIM)

HIM was the first school on our tour and as a business school with a hospitality focus, they are experts in understanding the value of human connection. Their program combines key industry and human-centric skills with real world-placements and global partnerships to create leaders of the future. As a business school, students in HIM can graduate with a BBA in either Luxury Brand Management, Financial Analysis and Wealth Management, Human Capital and Development and Franchise Business Management. What sets HIM graduates apart from other business students is that they will graduate with as much as 1.5 years’ worth of work experience by the time they finish at HIM. This is because students in HIM will have to complete a mandatory 4 – 6 months of paid internship every year for the three years that they will take to complete their undergraduate studies.

Twice a year, students will have exclusive access to the International Recruitment Forum, one of the largest career events in Europe, where students get a chance to attend career presentations, meet with recruiters from over 100 companies and engage with managers and potential employers. Some of HIM’s industry partners include companies like La Mer, Edmond De Rothschild, Swiss Sustainable Finance, Four Seasons and Accor.

Upon completion, students will graduate with two Bachelor of Business Administration awarded by HIM AND Northwood University in the US.

César Ritz Colleges Switzerland (CRC) &  Culinary Arts Academy Switzerland (CAAS)

At CRC & CAAS, students are encouraged to think outside the box and to consider the wider environmental and social impact of everything that they do. Here, students are taught to become the leader every company dreams of – from rethinking their leadership style and strengthening their unique characteristics, to building a collaborative and authentic culture that encourages business acumen, idea sharing, and creativity.

Above all, students interested in the culinary arts will also have the opportunity to learn from an industry legend, Chef Anton Mosimann, who is a world-renowned Swiss chef who was awarded two Michelin stars, has served five British Prime Ministers, and four generations of the British royal family. Students will also have the opportunity to hone their craft in state-of-the-art kitchens at CRC & CAAS. Every aspect of their learning environment is designed to inform and inspire, from their cutting-edge facilities and interactive learning tools, to a 100-seat training restaurant. With spaces uniquely tailored for different stages of culinary development, students will learn every aspect of working in and managing a professional kitchen. While I was there, I had the opportunity to attend a chocolate workshop in one of their professional kitchens.

Students interested in hospitality will graduate with either a Bachelor of International Business in Hotel and Tourism Management awarded by César Ritz Colleges Switzerland and a Bachelor of Arts in Hospitality Business Management, awarded by Washington State University.

On the other hand, students who are keen on pursuing a career in the culinary field can graduate with a Bachelor of International Business in Culinary Arts, Pastry & Chocolate Arts or Vegetarian Culinary Arts awarded by César Ritz Colleges Switzerland (CRC) & Culinary Arts Academy Switzerland (CAAS) AND a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Culinary Arts, awarded by the University of Derby

All in all, I had a wonderful time on this trip learning about Switzerland’s renowned commitment to luxury, quality, and service, which makes Swiss hospitality school graduates highly sought after, both within the industry and beyond.
