Finding Your Future Pathways with the Bangkok Prep Higher Education Office

The Bangkok Prep Higher Education Office is dedicated to helping students at Bangkok Prep succeed academically and socially, and to prepare them for their next steps after graduating from Bangkok Prep, regardless of their chosen pathway. The HE office is led by a Head of Careers and Pathways and a Head of Higher Education and University, who work closely with a team of counsellors to provide guidance and support to students and their families.

One of the key services provided by the Higher Education Office is individual counselling. Students are able to meet with a counsellor to discuss their academic and personal needs, set and achieve academic and personal goals, prepare for interviews, and decide on their future pathways. Counsellors also assist students in resolving conflicts and problems, both personal and academic. In addition to one-on-one counselling, the office also provides opportunities for group counselling sessions.

The Higher Education Office also provides information and resources on college and career options to the wider student community. The counsellors in the HE Office create partnerships with universities all over the world, invite universities to speak to students, and collaborate with other international schools in Thailand to organise the annual Greater Bangkok University Fair. The office also organises our own Bangkok Prep Regional Fairs, where students and parents are invited to come and speak with university representatives from different regions. Guest speakers are invited to conduct taster university lectures for students to experience, arrange panel discussions with alumni to discuss career opportunities, and organise in-person and virtual college visits for students.

Another important service offered by the HE Office is the Futures class, which is held twice a month. During these classes, students complete career tests, explore different careers, universities and other pathways, are guided through the process of researching and shortlisting universities based on what fits their personal, professional, academic and financial goals and learn how to transition to life after Bangkok Prep.

To support students throughout secondary school, the team offers guidance and advice for choosing appropriate options subjects at IGCSE and A Level or BTEC level. This is complemented by interaction with Careers Education from Year 7 onwards, which is a part of the PSHE curriculum. To provide further insight into the world of work, counsellors work with a number of external providers and school stakeholders to offer careers talks and support work experience placements.

For parents, the Higher Education Office offers five discussion panels with members of the HE team throughout the year, where questions on how to best support their children in the journey to university are answered. Parents can also arrange private consultations with the counsellors to discuss potential prospects for their children. They are also encouraged to join meetings and attend info sessions by university representatives and industry professionals from all over the world, organised by the office.

In conclusion, the Bangkok Prep Higher Education Office is a valuable resource for students and families at Bangkok Prep. The office provides guidance, support and resources to help students make informed decisions about their future, whether that be in higher education, trade school or a career path of their choice. They also provide a comprehensive and holistic approach to counselling and guidance, as well as providing opportunities for students to explore different career and university options.

Admissions Procedure

When choosing Bangkok Prep for your child, you’re welcomed into the school family, ensuring a warm and supportive environment. The admissions process begins with completing a brief enquiry form, followed by an invitation for an introductory visit and tour. Conveniently located on Sukhumvit 77, Bangkok Prep offers both Primary and Secondary campuses. Upon deciding on Bangkok Prep, applicants submit their application form and required documents. Assessment sessions are then scheduled based on the applicant’s year level, ranging from 30 minutes to 3 hours. The assessment includes various activities and tests tailored to different age groups. After assessment, the admissions team evaluates the application and notifies the family of the decision within 1-2 weeks. Successful applicants receive a formal offer letter and an invoice for initial fees, including placement, security, and registration fees, which must be paid within the specified timeframe to secure the child’s place.

Early Years

At Bangkok Prep, the Early Years curriculum follows the Early Years Foundation Stage framework of England, emphasizing thematic topics and child-led learning for a stimulating and enjoyable school experience. It nurtures learning through play and focuses on developing concepts, skills, and positive attitudes across various areas including personal, social, emotional, communication, language, physical, literacy, mathematics, understanding of the world, and expressive arts and design. The curriculum prioritizes individualized learning, ensuring continuous progress while maintaining confidence and a can-do attitude. Specialist sessions in Thai language and culture, music, library, physical education, and swimming further enhance learning opportunities. Supervised by native English teachers and Thai-speaking teaching assistants, children immerse in language acquisition through the immersion method, preparing them for the international community. The Early Years program prioritizes outdoor learning environments, valuing them as essential for children’s wellbeing and development. It serves as ideal preparation for the transition into primary school and provides resources for parents on the Foundation Years website.

Secondary School

Bangkok Prep prides itself on being a distinct international secondary school in Bangkok, prioritizing student needs and providing a stimulating learning environment. Central to this is the pastoral system, where each student is assigned to a tutor group led by a Form Tutor, ensuring personalized care and support. The curriculum evolves to meet students’ changing needs, offering a core curriculum supplemented by option subjects as students mature. Key Stage 3 (Years 7-9) focuses on a broad curriculum adapted from the English National Curriculum, fostering personal growth. In Key Stage 4 (Years 10-11), students choose option subjects alongside a core curriculum, culminating in IGCSE examinations. Key Stage 5 (Years 12-13) sees students specialize in Advanced Level courses while also engaging in a core curriculum and receiving support for university applications. Bangkok Prep fosters a warm, inclusive community and actively participates in regional competitions and events. The school encourages student involvement and leadership, ensuring a thriving learning environment. Contact information is provided for further inquiries.
