Game Report

U15 Boys Basketball

Bangkok Prep v. St. Andrews 107

16 November 2018

On Friday 16th November 2018m the U15 Boys Bulldogs travelled to take on St. Andrews 107.

Of our starting five, we were without two, who were obligated elsewhere. Coach Mike saw this as an opportunity to call-up young ‘dawgs Cody, Filipo, Alex, and Cameron from the U13 Boys squad to fill the void.

Playing shorthanded against St. Andrews’ fully-loaded team, the ‘Dawgs were finding their rhythm when St. Andrews quickly jumped to a 5 point advantage (09-04) in the 1Q.

But, when the St. Andrews squad came out to start the 2Q, they were confronted on the floor by a hard charging young ‘Dawgs team. Coming out of the huddle, the ‘Dawgs cranked it up. What followed was a hard-fought defensive contest.

The ‘Dawgs ran hard against St. Andrew’s fully-loaded team for the balance of the game. Mounting a hard court press for the entire 2nd half, they limited St. Andrews to only a two basket advantage (17-13) through the final 3 quarters of play.

St. Andrews won that day 26-17 .. but, that .. is only part .. of the story.

Our U15 squad played their regular rotation without their starting guards, but Coach Mike tested all four U13 rookies, who took their turns on the hardwood. The rotation was jamming, giving the younger players valuable experience against St. Andrews’ older players and with their future U15 teammates.

This was R&D time. Maybe a bit nervous to start, the young ‘Dawgs settled down, nailed some baskets, and made some very slick defensive plays. Entering the second year of Coach Andy’s and Coach Mike’s team building program, the preview of next year’s U15 Boys squad is looking pretty saaa-weet!

Our ‘Dawgs are no strangers to the role of the underdog, routinely taking on and taking down schools twice our size.  Once again, our players stepped-up and put it all out there in a bold stand against the odds.

But .. that is what they do.
