Year 5 Aztec Day & Showcase BKK Prep, News, Primary June 21, 2019 Year 5 enjoyed their Aztec Day on Thursday (13th June) in celebration of their ‘Angry Aztecs’ topic this term. A tremendous effort was made by children and parents to ensure that the children looked fantastic in their Aztec costumes. During the morning, the children took part in a range of activities including Aztec art, warrior training, Aztec games, a headdress workshop and a session on making Aztec hot chocolate. The children had a really fun morning and made excellent Aztec warriors. They agreed that the chocolate drink was a bit too bitter and spicy for their tastes and preferred to add sugar, honey and vanilla as the Spanish did all those years ago. In the afternoon, Year 5 set up their Curiosity Projects to create an Aztec Showcase for members of the school community including teachers, parents and fellow students. It was clear that the children had worked very hard on their projects and were inspired by their own curiosity. We were very proud to witness their confidence when communicating with a range of visitors about their project and the pride they showed in their creations. The Year 5 area had a wonderful atmosphere and was made particularly inviting by the tireless work of the Year 5 TAs who had once again created a stunning display at the entrance to the Year 5 area. Thank you to all of the parents that attended and gave the children the opportunity to grow as learners by asking them so many excellent questions and taking a genuine interest in their projects.
