Old - Sustainability - Bangkok Prep

Old – Sustainability

Bangkok Prep is fully committed to environmental education and sustainability! We have fully and authentically embedded the UN Global Goals into our curriculum which we use as ‘guiding lights’ to shine the path towards a sustainable future.

Education

At Bangkok Prep, we provide an educational approach that aims to develop students, schools and communities with values and motivation to take action for sustainability.

ECO SCHOOL

Bangkok Prep is the second school in the world to be accredited with the highest Eco Schools Award - the Green Flag! We are very proud of this achievement but we are realistic in the challenge ahead. In March 2019 our school hosted the first FOBISIA Environmental Conference in Thailand. This conference focused on reconnecting with nature in our cities. Children explored ways in which we can live more sustainably. Bangkok Prep is also extremely proud to be a fully affiliated member of the WWF (World Wildlife Fund).

Future Technology

At Bangkok Prep, we believe that sustainability is an important driving force that shapes our lives and technology and plays a pivotal role in the future. Future Technology has the power to increase productivity and efficiency and help us to understand and prepare the life skills required for an increasingly fast paced world.

Solar panels on campus

As an Eco School, Bangkok Prep has continued to develop our sustainable practices and we are incredibly proud to have installed a large quantity of solar panels at our Secondary Campus. These panels produce an excess of energy during certain periods of the year. This enables our school to provide renewable energy to other businesses within the T77 complex.

ELECTRIC VEHICLE CHARGING STATION

As a committed Green Flag Eco school, Bangkok Prep will be the first International School in Thailand to have a SHARGE Electric Vehicle charging station for use with all electric vehicles with any type of connection. In addition to that, there will be two #BMW #i3s Battery Electric Vehicle available to use at the Secondary campus.

Community

The success of our sustainability milestone lies with the students’ drive and enthusiasm through both eco and social practice, which is embedded in Bangkok Prep’s life values through ongoing projects and initiatives that have a great impact on the community around them, at school and beyond.

Recycling

We are delighted to announce that in line with Bangkok Prep values and being the first International School in Thailand to be awarded the Eco-Schools Green Flag award, we have now rolled out our new recycling bins around school. These are clearly marked and allow the separation of plastics, cans and other waste products. This is also a fantastic way to teach our children about the importance of taking care of our planet. Thank you to the IVL Foundation for your support with this.

TRASH LUCKY

Bangkok Prep is the first and only school in Thailand to have work with Trash Lucky – a recycling center. And together launched “Growing Green,” a School Recycling Program where students can learn about 3R’s and recycle UHT cartons and more! Students were thrilled to recycle and win prizes!

Students were happy to see trash!? They are happy because this pile of trash is full of recyclable waste that has been sorted by their own and their parents. Since rolling out our School Recycling Program, many kids have told us that they want to start recycling and prevent the leakage of plastic and other waste from entering the ocean and harming their sea animal friends.

Early Years

At Bangkok Prep, the Early Years curriculum follows the Early Years Foundation Stage framework of England, emphasizing thematic topics and child-led learning for a stimulating and enjoyable school experience. It nurtures learning through play and focuses on developing concepts, skills, and positive attitudes across various areas including personal, social, emotional, communication, language, physical, literacy, mathematics, understanding of the world, and expressive arts and design. The curriculum prioritizes individualized learning, ensuring continuous progress while maintaining confidence and a can-do attitude. Specialist sessions in Thai language and culture, music, library, physical education, and swimming further enhance learning opportunities. Supervised by native English teachers and Thai-speaking teaching assistants, children immerse in language acquisition through the immersion method, preparing them for the international community. The Early Years program prioritizes outdoor learning environments, valuing them as essential for children’s wellbeing and development. It serves as ideal preparation for the transition into primary school and provides resources for parents on the Foundation Years website.

Secondary School

Bangkok Prep prides itself on being a distinct international secondary school in Bangkok, prioritizing student needs and providing a stimulating learning environment. The curriculum evolves to meet students’ changing needs, offering a core curriculum supplemented by option subjects as students mature. Key Stage 3 (Years 7-9) focuses on a broad curriculum adapted from the English National Curriculum, fostering personal growth. In Key Stage 4 (Years 10-11), students choose option subjects alongside a core curriculum, culminating in IGCSE examinations. Key Stage 5 (Years 12-13) sees students specialize in Advanced Level courses while also engaging in a core curriculum and receiving support for university applications. Bangkok Prep fosters a warm, inclusive community and actively participates in regional competitions and events.
