Key Stage 4 includes Year 10 and Year 11, where students study for their IGCSE or GCSE courses. These qualifications are designed to be taught as a two year course for students aged 14 to 17 years. These are crucial years of our student’s education preparing them for the ‘Advanced Level’ examinations in Key Stage 5.
The International General Certificate of Education (IGCSE) and General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) is the foundation for worldwide university entry and prepares young people for the A Level programme and any other examination system for 16 – 18 year olds. These courses are recognised for developing vital educational skills such as recall of knowledge, problem solving, oral skills, investigative skills, teamwork and initiative. The programmes are intensive and students are expertly supported to achieve success. This is the first step on the route to an international university placement.
We are a recognised examination centre for AQA, AQA Oxford, Cambridge Assessment International Education and Edexcel examinations. Assessment is primarily through external examinations at the end of Year 11 and may have a component of coursework.
The resulting qualification provides a foundation for higher level courses, such as:
Making IGCSE/GCSE choices are the most important educational decisions made so far by Year 9 students and are there to give choice and flexibility. Students and parents are given information about the subjects and choices on offer with support from the Key Stage 3 and 4 Leaders, Form Tutors, teachers and focused lessons in PSHE Education. Students are advised to think about their decisions over a period of time, choose a range of subjects and reflect on what their choices will lead to in the future.
More detailed information is available to our parents on their Firefly portal; where curriculum booklets can be accessed.
