Business and Technology Education Council (BTEC)

What is BTEC?

BTEC Nationals are Level 3 qualifications that provide specialist, work-related learning in a range of sectors (Sport, Business, & Travel and Tourism) they need to progress along their chosen learning and career paths.

Why choose BTEC?

BTEC provides a way for students to learn through practical work as well as study.

There is no big examination at the end of a BTEC course. Students are assessed regularly and awarded marks towards their final grade.

University Acceptance

BTECs are accepted by many universities but it will depend upon which course your child is applying for. It is recommended that they look at individual universities and courses.

However, BTECs are equivalent to A Level grades, as you can see below:

BTECs are awarded one of the following grades:

Distinction* - equivalent to 50 UCAS points (the same as an A* at A Level)
Distinction - equivalent to 35 UCAS points (in between a B and C at A Level)
Merit - equivalent to 25 UCAS points (in between a C and D at A Level)
Pass - equivalent to 15 UCAS points (in between an E and D at A Level
