Celebrating multilingualism

We celebrate each child’s linguistic heritage and create an inclusive space where amazing learning happens through the active use and appreciation of multiple languages. Home languages are recognised, valued and nurtured, with parents and carers playing a vital role in our linguistic community.

In Bangkok Prep, our students develop into confident linguists & communicators, growing a love for learning languages as well as an appreciation and curiosity for other cultures.

Languages offered

Discover our language programmes from Pre-Nursery to Sixth Form, supporting students from their first words to their greatest accomplishments.

Pre-Nursery

Children are gently immersed in English from their very first day at Bangkok Prep. Expert teachers speak, sing and play with them in English throughout the day, so language becomes a natural part of every routine, game and interaction, building confidence and early communication skills in a warm, nurturing environment.

Pre-Nursery

Early Years

Children build strong foundations in English by listening, understanding and speaking in meaningful, everyday contexts. Native English teachers and Thai-speaking teaching assistants gently guide language through play, stories and shared routines, so new words, sounds and sentence patterns are picked up naturally.

Immersion means English is lived, not just learned, as children chat with friends and teachers in a vibrant international community while also beginning to explore Thai Language and Cultural Studies in dedicated lessons.

Early Years

Primary School

In Primary, English is the language of instruction, supporting children in developing confidence and fluency in all areas of learning. Alongside this, children enjoy daily Thai story times and songs, strengthening their connection to the local language and culture.

In Year 1, international students take part in a Language Carousel, exploring Thai, Spanish, French and Mandarin, while Thai students continue to deepen their home language and may add further languages through after-school clubs. From Year 2 onwards, each learner focuses on one World Language, building skills and cultural understanding over time, with early exposure to additional languages also woven into circle times.

Primary School

Secondary School

In Years 7–9, students study two World Languages, chosen from French, Spanish, Mandarin, Thai (First or Second Language) and Japanese (First Language). EAL support is available for students who are new to English.

In Years 10–11, students continue with at least one World Language at IGCSE level, with the option to study two for added challenge. Thai passport holders follow Thai Language, while students study English through either IGCSE First Language or Second Language pathways, with most choosing English Literature. Japanese is offered as a First Language only.

Secondary School

Sixth Form

Sixth Formers can further broaden their horizons by choosing Japanese, Thai, Spanish, French or Mandarin as an A Level elective, deepening language skills and fluency for study, work and life in a globalized world.

Alongside this, dedicated IELTS lessons in KS5 help students secure the language proficiency required for competitive university entry and international opportunities, strengthening their confidence as global communicators.

Sixth Form

Excellent English support

Our English as an Additional Language (EAL) programme offers extra support for students working to reach the expected fluency level for their year.

  • EAL assessments

    EAL assessments

Teachers use a combination of class-based assessments and the Oxford Online Placement Test (OOPT) to monitor progress in reading, writing, listening and speaking. Students’ language development is tracked against the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). During EAL Assessment Weeks held across the year, progress is reviewed to ensure learners are well supported and making steady improvements.

  • Primary School

    Primary School

We assess English progress using the international CEFR framework. Students are reviewed three times a year during EAL Assessment Weeks. Children in Key Stage 1 work towards a high A2 level, and those in Key Stage 2 towards a high B1 level. Students graduate from the EAL Programme once they confidently meet these age-appropriate benchmarks.

  • Secondary School

    Secondary School

Learners join EAL-focused classes that run alongside English First Language and World Language 2. Two pathways are available - a two-year course leading to IGCSE ESL at the end of Year 11, or a one-year accelerated course with the exam at the end of Year 10. Students who earn a B or higher then move into First Language English (coursework pathway) and take that exam in Year 11.

  • Sixth Form

    Sixth Form

Sixth formers who did not achieve a C in First or Second Language English retake in Year 12, ensuring everyone meets essential standards.

It was fun learning Mandarin with the class, watching videos, and I feel confident when having a Mandarin conversation with someone.

I just wanted to say a huge thank you for the last 7 years of Spanish. Being at USC in Los Angeles, this language has been one of the most useful skills I could have obtained.
