On the 9th and 10th of January, seven Key Stage 3 students represented Bangkok Prep at the FOBISIA International Chess Tournament. This team, which has been competing together since 2023, travelled to compete against strong opposition from across South East Asia. Players attended from a wide range of countries, including India, Singapore, Malaysia, and numerous schools from Bangkok. The standard of play throughout the tournament was exceptionally high, providing a challenging and valuable experience for all competitors. A highlight of the event was a special visit from Grandmaster Kevin Goh Wei Ming, who generously signed autographs and inspired players with his presence. Winners from each age group were also given the opportunity to take part in the Grandmaster Challenge, adding further excitement to the competition. The Bangkok Prep team fought hard in every round and demonstrated resilience, teamwork, and sportsmanship throughout the event. While Shrewsbury claimed the overall top spot, our players performed admirably against very strong opposition. The next chess tournament will take place on Sunday 25th January 2026.
