The Mathematics Faculty is firstly delighted to announce the success of many of our students in the recent UKMT Intermediate Mathematical Challenge (IMC), on 29th January 2026. The IMC, aimed at Y9-11 students (but with additional Y7-8 students invited to take part), has 25 multiple choice questions which are to be completed in 1 hour. The challenge encourages mathematical reasoning, precision of thought and fluency. Students can earn Bronze, Silver and Gold certificates, as well as certificates of participation.A first huge congratulations to Haruma Inomoto in Y11 who scored the highest mark on this year’s IMC (112); this was a Gold Award and Best in School. Chawin (Isaac) Leeahtam in Y7 got the second highest result with 107, and Shaoyuan (Austin) Li in Y10 scored a fantastic 103. All 3 of these students received Gold Awards and were invited to sit the bonus rounds of the competitions (MMO/HMO/CMO) - we eagerly await their results! Special mentions must also go to Minkyung (Jenny) Byun and Jeongwoo (Henry) Ban who were our top students in Years 8 and 9 respectively, also receiving Gold Awards.Other incredible Gold results were for Pattapol (Latte) Yamleemul in Y11, and Piyawat (Nahm) Na Nakorn in Y10. Well done boys!Photographed below are Jenny, Austin, Henry and Haruma......and Isaac.Overall, we had 110 students in Y7-11 participate in the IMC. Our Bangkok Prep students achieved some fantastic results as always:Gold - 22 studentsSilver - 29 studentsBronze - 29 studentsWell done to all Bangkok Prep students who took part in the IMC, showing determination, excellent mathematical problem solving and a passion for mathematics. We are very proud of you all.In other news, we had two of our best mathematicians sit the bonus rounds of the Senior Mathematical Challenge (SMC). Both Zijie (Jeffery) Mao (Y10) and Rajchid (Pip) Purttiponthanee (Y13) were invited to take on the BMO Round 1 Competition due to their fantastic SMC results - both did very well in the bonus round, with Jeffery earning a Merit Award, and Pip achieving a Distinction and a Bronze medal. Pip consequently went onto sit the BMO Round 2. We are so very proud of these students; you have been assets to our school representing Bangkok Prep Maths in these challenging and prestigious competitions.Photographed below is Rajchid (Pip) Purttiponthane with his BMO Rounds 1 and 2 certificates - well done, Pip! The Maths department has been blessed with your presence over your time in Bangkok Prep - we will miss you and wish you all the best as you head to Cambridge to study Mathematics!
