As part of the English curriculum for the first half-term, Year 8 students developed their persuasive skills byparticipatingin a series of engaging, in-class debates. This culminated in The Great Debate - a superb showcase of public speaking and collaboration where selected teams competed in front of theirYear 8 peers. These teams debated contentious topics such as: 'Homework does more harm than good'; 'Social media should be banned' and 'Weekends shouldbe longer than two days'. Each debate was compelling and closely fought, with the teamsarguing with passion and care, as well as challengingany opposing views. Difficult decisions were made by our judgingpanel with each debate being high-scoring and demonstrating excellent team-working skills. Congratulations to Alex, Connie, Greta and Keen who were the top-scoring team across all three debates and worthy winners!
