Key Stage 5 consists of Years 12 and 13 and is more commonly known as the ‘Sixth Form’. Key Stage 5 is where students further specialise in their studies and opt for subjects that will, ultimately, guide their choice of study at university undergraduate level. Good grades at A Level will give students advanced credit at universities overseas, particularly in the US. Students will be examined at the end of Year 12 (AS Level) and Year 13 (A2 Level). Study at this level, further develops the knowledge, skills and understanding after the IGCSEs. The syllabuses develop a deep understanding of subjects and promote independent thinking. The syllabuses also prepare learners for university study, which is why universities worldwide value and recognise the AS and A Level qualifications. In Year 12, students choose to study 3-5 choices, in addition to these subjects, there is compulsory core curriculum for all students: Physical Education (for physical well-being and health); Personal, Social and Health education (PSHE); Community Service; Thai studies for Thai students; and in the future the extended project qualification (EPQ). Private study time exists for all Year 12 and 13 students. The demands and expectations of A Level are such that private study is essential to maintain pace with the research and preparation necessary for all their classes. High School Diploma: After the successful completion of a student’s secondary education a diploma is awarded. This diploma is normally a requirement for entry into university. The Bangkok Prep High School Diploma will recognise not only academic success but also extra-curricular activities, community service and positive engagement in the in-school assistance programme. An attendance of 90% is also expected.
