This term, Year 4 have been busy becoming ocean champions through our Service Project, learning how small actions can make a big difference. We were lucky to welcome Shark Guardians, who taught us why sharks are so important to the ocean, how they often get an unfair reputation, and why protecting them matters. We learned about the dangers of shark fin soup, the impact of plastic pollution, and simple ways we can help to save sharks in our everyday lives. While on our residential in Chonburi and Rayong, we put this learning into action by taking part in a beach clean, making our own “teaspoon of change”to help protect marine environments. Seeing the amount of rubbish washed up on the shore really helped us understand why reducing plastic in the ocean is so important. This week, wewere also visited by the Global Reef Project, where Piers taught us all about coral reefs, why they are being damaged, and how humans can help restore them. Inspired by this, we designed our own artificial coral reefs using wire and pipe cleaners. We were thrilled to learn that the winning design will be turned into a real artificial reef and placed off the coast of Koh Tao - a lasting legacy of Year 4’s commitment to protecting our oceans.
